Tower of London – Year 4 – Tuesday, 15th May 2018

Year 4 visited the Tower of London as part of their studies on the Medieval Period in English history. The Tower is an excellent historical primary source with nearly a thousand years of history to explore!

During their ‘Digital Mission’ workshop in the Medieval Palace, the children prepared the Tower for the arrival of King Edward and Queen Eleanor. All were successful and received their time explorer’s passport.

As they listened to the children’s audio tour, they were: dazzled by the exquisite Crown Jewels in the heavily guarded Jewel House, entertained by the ravens - tasked with keeping our kingdom safe, frightened by the Traitors’ Gate and enthralled by the vast collection of body amour, weapons and objects of torture in the White Tower itself.

At the end of the day, as we walked the ramparts with the River Thames and Tower Bridge to our right and the White Tower to our left, we felt most grateful for our rich heritage and for all those who work tirelessly to preserve it.
