From 14th-16th May, Year 5 spent three action-packed days visiting the wonderful Juniper Hall, nestled at the bottom of Box Hill in Surrey. Upon arrival, the children had to make their own beds for the night. This was followed by an orienteering treasure hunt and a night walk. Day two began at 7am. Everyone had to make their own packed lunch and eat breakfast, before setting some mammal traps and building survival shelters in the woods.
The rest of the day was spent walking 5.5 miles around Box Hill and across it's famous stepping stones. The visit culminated on the final day with checking mammal traps and moth traps, pond dipping for invertebrates and spending lots of money in the Juniper Hall shop! Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the trip and left having improved their teamwork skills, their knowledge of scientific fieldwork, and having developed a greater sense of independence and self-sufficiency.
