St James Church - Wednesday, 16th May 2018 (Year 1 & Year 2)
As part of our religious studies, Year 1 and Year 2 visited our local church, St James in Bodley Road. The children were given a tour of the inside of the church and a most informative talk by the vicar, Katie Thomas. The children explored the various parts of the church, including the altar and the font. The vicar taught the children about their functions.
They dressed up as members of the clergy and the choir and even had a go on the organ and the piano. The organ made a very loud noise! The children looked at the three stained glass windows in St James Church. One was of Jesus and children, another showed the story of the crucifixion and the last one showed Mary and baby Jesus. The vicar said that if the children remembered one thing then she would like them to remember that Jesus loves all children and that is why the first stained glass window, as you enter the church, is so very important.
The visit was excellent preparation for the royal wedding on Saturday
